Developmental Preschool
The Laveen Elementary School District supports the importance of a child’s early years by providing a Preschool Program for children with identified special needs. Laveen Elementary School District’s Preschool program provides early intervention/special education services to 3 to 5 year old children with qualifying developmental delays in the areas of hearing, vision, speech/language, cognitive, social, motor, and/or adaptive behavior. Eligibility is determined through formal assessment procedures.
Children who attend the special needs classes qualify for special education services and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in effect. Preschool for children with special needs is provided at no cost to parents.
The goal of the Laveen Preschool program is to increase children’s independence through:
- providing a positive first school experience
- developing social skills with peers and adults
- developing self-control and self-confidence
- encouraging self-care skills
- developing effective communication skills
- developing small and large muscle skills
- providing developmentally appropriate learning experiences
Preschool for children with special needs is provided at no cost to parents.
A limited number of children who do not qualify for special education may also be accepted and serve as “peer models.” These children are accepted based on screening results and space availability.
