At Laveen Elementary School District, we believe that every student deserves access to a quality education, no matter their housing situation. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as other students.

Potentially Qualifying Living Situations

Children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those:

  • Living in shelters, transitional housing, or motels

  • Doubled up with other families due to loss of housing or economic hardship

  • Living in cars, parks, or public spaces

  • Temporarily staying with friends or relatives

  • Unaccompanied youth (not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian)

How We Can Help

We are here to remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, and academic success. Eligible students may receive:

  • Immediate school enrollment even without typically required documents
  • Transportation assistance to and from school
  • School supplies and uniforms
  • Support with school fees and extracurricular costs
  • Referrals to community resources (housing, food, healthcare, etc.)

Your Rights as a McKinney-Vento Student

  • Stay in the school you were last enrolled in—even if you move
  • Enroll in school without delay
  • Participate fully in school activities and programs
  • Access transportation services to maintain school stability
