Back To School
The 2020-21 school year begins Monday, August 3. Please read the following information which contains important back-to-school details for all Laveen families.
The school year will begin with all Laveen classes being provided through online/distance learning. View our Return To Laveen page for details on schooling options once on-site, in-person learning is permitted.
Laveen has refined online/distance learning for the 2020 school year. Families should expect more robust instruction and simplified access to coursework than what was experienced in the spring.
All students will receive a district-issued Chromebook and other instructional materials to complete coursework at home. A virtual parent orientation, held on your child’s first day, will provide details on accessing online materials, participating in lessons, and submitting completed assignments.
Classes begin August 3 through online learning. Please take a few minutes to watch our Distance Learning Overview video below.
|July 27-31||Teachers will be calling families to welcome students to class.|

First Week of School
The first few days of school will include a student orientation and overview of what to expect during online learning. On August 3, please have your child log into his/her Chromebook at the scheduled time of his/her first class period for a parent orientation overview. On August 4, students will participate in a Google Meet orientation. Daily instruction will begin on August 5. If students are unable to log in at the scheduled time, all live lessons will also be recorded for viewing at a later time through Google Classroom.
The Parent Orientation video will be available for viewing here after the start of school on August 3.
Per ARS 15-802, students must participate in online/distance learning in order to be counted as present and attending. Student attendance will be recorded based on participation in the live or pre-recorded virtual lessons provided through Google Meet. Participation in distance/online learning counts towards the minimum instructional days, or an equivalent number of hours, required by the state of Arizona.
We know many families are in need of childcare while their child attends classes remotely. Our Kids Club will continue to operate an all-day camp to serve these families. Students will be able to participate in their online lessons while attending the Kids Club program. Chromebooks will be provided. Laveen is offering Learning Labs to families who need a safe place for their children to go during the day. Meals will be served as usual during the school year with breakfast being served free to all participants and lunch being provided based on the family’s eligibility status (free, reduced-price, or paid).
During the distance learning period, school meals will be served by our Child Nutrition Department in accordance with the distribution guidelines typical during the regular school year. Breakfast is served free to all participants and lunch is provided based on the family’s eligibility status (paid, free, or reduced-price).
Breakfast and lunch will be served daily, at one time, on a drive-thru/walk-up basis. Meals are only available to students who are presently enrolled in the Laveen School District. Student identification is required to obtain meals and will be scanned upon receiving food. Meal payments will be deducted from your child’s account if you are on paid or reduced-price status. All families are encouraged to apply for free or reduced-price meals using our secure online portal.
This information is subject to change based upon the approval of waivers to the United States Department of Agriculture distribution guidelines.
The Governing Board has approved policy regulations requiring face coverings for students, staff, and visitors in response to State of Arizona Executive Order 2020-51, Arizona: Open for Learning. Face coverings are required until the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) determines that they are no longer necessary or recommended to contain the spread of COVID-19.
