All nine Laveen schools offer free full-day kindergarten, providing students a rich academic curriculum that includes English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, and technology.
Students who are five years old by August 31 of each year may enroll in Kindergarten. Children who reach age five by December 31 may be accepted based on level of readiness. Early entrance testing is conducted in May. See details on early entry below.
Laveen schools typically hold Kindergarten Round Up, an informational evening for prospective families, in February. Families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and register their child for the upcoming school year.
Early Entry Kindergarten
Currently, the District also allows an early entrance exception for those students who reach the age of five between September 1st and December 31st of the current year.
The decision to allow for an early entrance exception will be made when it is clearly indicated that a child exhibits skills in areas of development that will most likely assure a successful and satisfactory kindergarten experience. These areas of skill development will be assessed by a screening administered by the school. The screening process requires a non-refundable fee of $30, payable by cash or money order. Be aware that children will only be screened once. No second screenings will be permitted. This process is for all schools except Paseo Pointe and Vista del Sur Accelerated Academy. For entrance into one of these schools, please contact their school office directly.
To request an early entrance exception please follow the steps below:
- View the Early Entry Kindergarten Parent Information Video for an outline of what you can expect.
- Submit a Request for Kindergarten Early Entry Exception form.
The school site will contact you to schedule a screening appointment for your child. Screenings will only be conducted during a testing window in May and July. The school will contact you with the screening results and to discuss the early entrance exception.
Register Your Child For Kindergarten
If you are not requesting an Early Entry Exception, you may enroll your child for next year’s Kindergarten beginning in February. Please visit our Registration page for instructions and required documents.
