Life Time Foundation

We are excited to announce that Laveen’s Child Nutrition Services Department has joined 24 other school districts across the country and has partnered with Life Time Foundation. The partnership with Life Time Foundation will further support our mission to ensure all of our students receive nutritious meals to support academic excellence in a positive environment. We will be working with Life Time Foundation’s Registered Dietitian and have partnered with a chef to provide culinary training to staff, to implement more speed-scratch cooking, work to reduce the amount of highly processed foods on our menus, and phase out foods that contain “ingredients of concern.”

Food Purchasing Guidelines

Laveen’s Child Nutrition Services Department works closely with our industry partners to procure food items that meet strict nutrition and ingredient standards. Our Purchasing Guidelines help to inform our current and potential vendors of our standards and to guide our team in the decision-making process as we continuously review our menu.

Meet Our Chef

The Life Time Foundation paired the Laveen School District with Chef Kent Getzin to provide culinary training and create scratch recipes. Chef Kent served as the food service director for 17 years in the Wenatchee School District in which he developed a model Farm-to-School and scratch cooking program that gained national attention.
