Jennifer Geotzke and Mekell Bell Sworn In as Laveen School District Board Members

The Laveen School District recently celebrated a significant milestone with the swearing-in of two esteemed members to the Governing Board. Jennifer Geotzke, a familiar face in our community, was officially sworn in by the Maricopa County School Superintendent, marking her return to the Board. With her wealth of experience and deep commitment to Laveen’s students and families, Ms. Geotzke’s return promises to bring continuity and leadership that will guide the district forward.

Joining her is Mekell Bell, the newest addition to the Governing Board. Mrs. Bell’s dedication to education and her fresh perspective are a welcome addition to the team.

Both members were warmly welcomed by Superintendent Dr. Sprout during the ceremony.

Join our Team! Teacher Job Fair is January 30, 2025

The Laveen School District is hosting a job fair for teachers interested in joining our team. The job fair will be held on January 30, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center, 5001 W. Dobbins. Participants will be able to meet with Laveen administrators, including school principals.

A Heartfelt Thank You for an Unforgettable 11th Annual Winter Festival

On December 6th, the Laveen community came together to celebrate the season at the 11th Annual Winter Festival held at the David Glasser Athletic Complex, 5001 W. Dobbins. Thanks to your incredible support, the event was a tremendous success, drawing more than 3,000 attendees for an evening filled with holiday cheer, community spirit, and festive fun.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this event possible—from our sponsors and volunteers to the amazing vendors and food truck operators who added flavor and charm to the festival. With over 52 vendors and 11 food trucks, there was something for everyone to enjoy. One vendor summed it up perfectly, sharing, “Kudos to the organizers for planning everything so well! It was a joy to be part of such a lively and well-attended event.”

Highlights from the Evening

The Winter Festival featured special appearances by some incredible guests who brought extra excitement to the event:

  • The Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders lit up the festival with their energy and holiday spirit.
  • SPIRIT, the Fiesta Bowl mascot, delighted attendees with its festive antics.
  • Councilman Carlos Galindo-Elvira from District 7 joined the celebration, showing his support for our vibrant community.
  • Thousands of Laveen residents and friends from neighboring areas filled the complex, enjoying the festivities and connecting with neighbors.

In addition to the fantastic entertainment, attendees were treated to an array of local goods, delicious eats, and fun activities for all ages, making it an evening to remember.

Supporting Education in Laveen

All proceeds from the Winter Festival benefit the Laveen Education Foundation, which supports educational initiatives and programs for students across the district. Your participation and contributions are helping us make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the future of our community.

L.E.A.P. Night Inspires Families to Explore Academic Pathways

Last night, the Laveen Elementary School District hosted its highly anticipated L.E.A.P. (Laveen’s Exploration of Academic Pathways) event, welcoming over 100 families to learn about the many educational opportunities available for their students.

Held at the Laveen Elementary School, the event brought together representatives from 26 schools, including a mix of high schools and colleges, showcasing a variety of programs, pathways, and resources to help students plan their future academic journeys. Families from all nine Laveen schools attended, eager to explore the diverse options and gather valuable insights.

Parents and students alike were impressed with the event’s scope. One parent shared, “I was amazed by the variety of schools in attendance and how informative the representatives were. It gave me a better understanding of the opportunities my child can pursue after middle school.”

L.E.A.P. Night provided an opportunity for families to engage in meaningful conversations with school representatives, ask questions, and collect materials to guide their decisions. From specialty programs to college preparatory pathways, the event was a true celebration of academic exploration and empowerment.

If you missed last night’s event, don’t worry! The next L.E.A.P. Night is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Laveen Elementary School. Mark your calendars and join us for another incredible evening of exploration and learning.

Kayla Parra Sworn In as Newest Member of the Laveen School District Governing Board
